WELCOME TO A TYPICAL CELTIC VILLAGE

Though this is an example of an Iron Age village, it was still probably much the same in the early 5th century. Most homesteads would be enclosed within small ringforts.  The larger ones would have room 

for the dwellings of retainers etc. 

thus forming a kind of village.

This is an example of a two conjooined huts. They would have been built of post and dabble with thatched roofs.

This is an example of a single hut similar       to the one Ciaran  may have lived in prior      to his entombment. While most dwellings were round or oval, larger halls may have been rectangular in shape.
