imaginary places

Hawthorne and Blackthorn Passage

Tunnel of hawthorn and blackthorn bushes leading to the sacred grove

Sacred Grove

Sacred grove looking out toward the lake. The altar is in the center.

Another view of the sacred grove

Looking away from the lake. The grove is surrounded by hawthorn and blackthorn bushes.

Ciarán’s Tomb

Tuamai Dearmadta, the Forgotten Tombs. This is the hillside tomb where Ciarán was interred for betraying the goddess

Cave of Rúin Arsa

The Cave of  Rúin Arsa or the Cave of Ancient Secrets, where the Book of Carraig is kept. It's also believed to be an entrance to the Otherworld.

Another View

Here is a close up view of the Cave of Rúin Arsa with the Book of Carraig.

Inside Ciarán's Tomb

This is what it might have looked like inside Ciarán's tomb in Tuamai Dearmadta

Ciaran's Exhibit

This is what the exhibit might have looked like when Ciarán was put on exhibit in the museum.

Imaginary items

Chi Rho Cross

Though the Chi Rho cross was an example of a real cross used by Christians during the 5th century, I put it here because this is my rendition of Ciarán’s cross. Note the sharp point.

Book of Carraig

This is my version of the Book of Carraig,

which holds the secrets of Ciarán’s priesthood. It's inlaid with gold, silver and bronze and studded with emeralds and sapphires. The

book is only to be viewed by those on Council

of Elders, under threat of death, and is kept

in the Cave of Rúin Arsa

Cup of Cheartais

Cup of Cheartais

Cup of Cheartais

The Cup of Justice was used in the entombment ceremony and filled with the Elixir of Suain Cráite, the Elixir of Tormented Sleep.

Claiomh Ailbe

Cup of Cheartais

Cup of Cheartais

Magical Sword of Ailbe, belonging to Domnall's father, was forged from a tiny chip of metal from Scian na Lúin, and as such, a cut from its blade can fell a man with one blow, causing great weakness or even death.

Fáinne na Eagna

Fáinne na Eagna

Fáinne na Eagna

These are the rings each student receives on becoming a cleric. Each one is designed by the individual's master teacher, so they are generally all different, though Ciarán 's and Aodhán’s are the same, given that Domnall designed them that way because they are twins. Their ring is the one with the triquetra. Faelen's is the one with the triskele, designed by Tadhg. And the one on top, with the ogham letter for dair or oak, is Ruadhán's and was deigned by Ailbe, his teacher - and father. They are known as the Rings of Wisdom.

Scian na Lúin

Fáinne na Eagna

Fáinne na Eagna

A magical dagger or knife formed from a sliver of Fionn mac Cumhaill's spear, Mac an Lúin. The goddess had asked it as payment for a favor she had granted the legendary hero. Just as the spear from which it was formed, it never had to cut twice, for one scratch from its blade would prove fatal.

Veil of Cinniúna - also known as the Veil of Aisling

Veil of Cinniúna - also known as the Veil of Aisling

Veil of Cinniúna - also known as the Veil of Aisling

The Veil of Fate, this was the shroud that those entombed in Tuamaí Dearmadta were covered with. It was said to seal them in endless torment, caught between this world and the other. The priests, however, referred to it as the Veil of Dreams, a cruel irony, for the dreams it brought about were more nightmares.

When a wrong has been done, the spear can be used to seek atonement, in most cases symbolically by shedding a bit of blood and offering it to the goddess and thus returning harmony to the world. It can also be used against an enemy when seeking retribution, for it will never miss its mark.

Shield of Onóra

Goblet of Firenne

Goblet of Firenne

Magical shield owned by Niall's grandfather, given to Domnall in hopes that it would protect his grandson from harm and instill honor in his blood. When Niall was entombed, Domnall placed it in the tomb with him, and it was recovered by Ciarán when Niall's tomb was opened, though he has no idea what it is.

Goblet of Firenne

Goblet of Firenne

Goblet of Firenne

Much the same as Manannan mac Lir's Goblet of Truth and Lies. In fact, perhaps it is one and the same. It will break if three lies are told near it and mend itself if three truths are told in its vicinity. But this goblet has an additional attribute. When a certain mixture is prepared and placed in the cup, the drinker will forget

any event they are instructed to forget.
